Akumal is a small beach resort community located 62 miles south of Cancún. Akumal consists of three areas: Half Moon Bay, with its amazing white sandy beaches, excellent scuba diving, swimming; next is Akumal Proper, a large resort with a grocery store and pharmacy; the last is Akumal Adventuras, has more condos and homes. Sea turtles can be found in Akumal laying eggs on the beaches at night throughout the nesting season or swimming in the main bay during the day. Although the main reason why people come to Akumal is to explore underwater life or venture into a cave, there are also several Mayan Ruins located within a short distance of Akumal.
