The Bajans - as the friendly and fun-loving locals call themselves - take pride in calling their island "Little England". If this is true as far as the island's architecture is concerned, there are plenty of West Indian influences to be seen all around. Old parishes, horse races, and portraits of the queen remind all visitors the Bajans' past. With no standing military, the island seems like the perfect holiday vacation, where tourists enjoy everything from the sunny beaches to the Old England charm.

Barbados nightlife is extensive and varied, providing entertainment for every taste. Most resorts have nightly entertainment in season, and nightclubs often have live bands for listening and dancing. The following clubs will make you never forget the nights spent here.
Boat Yard
One of the most popular nightspots in Bridgetown, this place features two Happy Hours each night - from 3pm to 6pm and then again from 10pm until 11pm. Tuesdays and Fridays feature live music by local bands, and Saturday is "oldies night" when DJs spin all of your favorite tunes. The Boatyard even offers family entertainment - Sunday during the day is beach volleyball for everyone.
Cafe Sol
This festive bar serves terrific margaritas rubbed with sugar instead of salt. On weekends there's live music and free Spanish dancing lessons.
Champer's
This waterfront wine bar attracts patrons with excellent snacks and an extensive wine list. Come here to sip a glass and talk with friends while enjoying the view.
Charlie's Bar and Grill
Charlie Lock greets everyone who enters his establishment. The kindly proprietor likes to see folks having fun, so he often leads sing-a-longs and schedules live entertainment. This is a great place to relax with friends and perhaps play a game of pool.
Rusty Pelican
The Rusty Pelican is a terrific place to people-watch while enjoying a cold beer. Located right on the waterfront in Bridgewater, this spot often features a guitarist.
Ship Inn
The Ship Inn has been swinging for almost 30 years. There's entertainment every night of the week. On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, you can groove to island music like calypso and reggae, spiced with some rock 'n' roll or R&B for good measure. Wednesday is alternative night. If all of that dancing makes you hungry, try the Inn's excellent pub grub. They serve tasty steak and kidney pie, fish and chips and shepherd's pie.
Upstairs at Olives
Before or after you dine downstairs in the bistro, head upstairs for a tasty cocktail and a snack of -- olives! This is an excellent spot to enjoy a glass of wine and a chat with friends. The slow-turning ceiling fans, wood floors and potted palms lend a slightly upscale feel to this bar.
After Dark
This huge entertainment center boasts the longest bar on the island and claims to stock every liquor you can name. Locals and tourists flock to it because there's something for everyone. In the main club, DJs spin disco tunes, while the Jazz Club is a bit quieter and more laid back. The courtyard features two stages and has a huge dance floor where you can groove to live reggae, calypso and soca.
Casbah
This upscale bar has a Moroccan theme that extends right down to the large throw pillows made for lounging. Polished waiters will make you feel like a pampered guest, and the dance floor is always crowded with well-heeled revelers. The courtyard cafe serves delicious food and snacks.
Harbour Lights
This outdoor club is right on the beach. Every night is themed; the Monday Beach Party features fire-eating, limbo contests, free drinks and a huge barbecue dinner. On Wednesday and Friday nights, the drinks are free.
Le Mirage
This rocking club is absolutely packed with locals on the weekends. They flock here to dance to reggae favorites, the newest disco and, occasionally, a live band. Every night features a different theme, and things don't heat up until after midnight.
Reggae Lounge
This mellow bar and dance club is all about reggae. During the week, DJs spin new Jamaican hits and old reggae favorites by Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff. On the weekends, prepare to dance to live bands.
