Tulum is the only Mayan walled city on the coastline, serving as a major port for Cobá. Within the walls of the city lies a series of platforms and buildings, including ruined palaces and elevated temples. The most impressive structure is "El Castillo". The temple of the Frescos is also interesting. Although not as impressive in size as Coba and Chichen Itza, Tulum holds a unique beauty. A perfect combination for a day-tour would be to visit Tulum in the morning and on the way snorkel lunch and relax for a while at Xel-Ha.
